Venue reflects on the last 12 months and looks to the future
Bolton Octagon has revealed pictures of the new-look interior of the refurbished, £12million theatre - a year since local theatres went into pandemic lock down, and two years since the popular Bolton venue closed its doors.
The new Octagon has seen the complete modernisation of the entire building with updated performance spaces, new participation facilities, an improved front-of-house experience and expanded backstage facilities.
Finishing touches are now being made for the reopening later this year - the final date to be confirmed according to government rulings.
Octagon chief executive Roddy Gauld said: “After a tumultuous 12 months, we are now excited to be looking to our future as we plan our reopening. We hope these first glimpses inside the redeveloped building will lift people’s excitement as we get ready to welcome the public back through our doors.“
The new Octagon has more internal space; is more environmentally friendly; has much-improved accessibility, and enhanced customer and backstage facilities. A new roof and major modernisation of electrics and plumbing are among other improvements.
The money for the work came from Bolton Council and Arts Council England, other funders and donors.
