Superfan's show imagines an evening in Elton's company
Elton John: It’s A Little Bit Funny tells the story of Elton John’s rise and fall (and rise again) as one of Britain’s most successful singer/songwriters.
Entertainer Martin Kaye met the superstar when both were performing in Las Vegas a few years ago - Kaye as Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet and John in his Million Dollar Piano Show.
Kaye’s new show - which comes to Altrincham’s Bowdon Rooms from July 19-24 (it was originally scheduled to play there in February) – draws on the meeting and the entertainer’s love of John’s music.
The show tells the imagined tale of an extraordinary night in Las Vegas when Elton superfan Kaye bumps into the bespectacled star and goes on to spend the evening with him in a night of confessions, anecdote, jokes and songs.
The show is the start of a new collaboration between the Bowdon Rooms, which recently underwent a million pound renovation, and Aria Entertainment’s Katy Lipson.
Martin Kaye said: “Having spent so much time performing away from Manchester throughout my career, it’s always pretty special to get the opportunity to play in my home town again.
“Katy Lipson and I grew up here, so it feels very much like a homecoming for both of us.”
