Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre continues its commitment to new and original writing with a bumper 2024 season that includes new shows from Jonathan Harvey (Coronation Street, Beautiful Thing) and Dave Kirby (local hit Lost Soul) and a new celebration of Lennon and McCartney. Plus, a return for hit Liverbirds musical Girls Don't Play Guiitars...
Here's the line-up:
Haunted Scouse: February 9-March 9, by Gerry Linford (Yellow Breck Road, Ellen & Rigby). A new comedy about love, life and the afterlife. Join the ghost with the most as he explores the world beyond the veil.
Come Together: March15-April 6, written by and starring Tom Connor and Mark Newnham, following their success in last year's Two Of Us. Featuring iconic Lennon-McCartney hits including I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Get Back, Yesterday and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
The Netherley Hillbillies: May 24-June 22, by Barbara Phillips. A new comedy about what happens when life-changing money lands in your lap. The grass might be greener but the gardener is terribly expensive.
Sisters of Mersey: July 5-August 3, by Jonathan Harvey. Harvey returns with another comedy, featuring a set of twins, music, another set of twins, some nuns, another set of twins, a heist, another set of twins...
Lost Soul 2: August 16-September 14, by Dave Kirby (Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels, Lost Soul, Council Depot Blues, Reds & Blues). Dave is back at the Court with the sequel to Lost Soul. Smigger, Donna, Terry and Pat take us from Scottie Road to Pontins Prestatyn to Liverpool’s over-40s Sunday night pub scene – all to a 70s soul soundtrack.
Girls Don’t Play Guitars: September 7-October 6, by Ian Salmon. Hit musical from 2019 returns. In Liverpool in 1963 the music world was exploding. Standing tall amongst all the boys was the world’s first all-girl rock ’n’ roll group... the untold true story of The Liverbirds!
