I have loved theatre since shaking Baby Bear's hand (paw?) at Goldilocks at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle Upon Tyne when I was a toddler. I was "Drama Captain" at school, although I can't remember what that actually involved. But both at school and at university I was writing reviews and this carried on throughout my career in print, starting with the Northern Echo. I have also worked for other publications, the BBC, and the School of Journalism at the University of Lancashire. Currently I work as Head of Communications within the NHS but am looking forward to retiring in 2020.

One of my fondest -- actually recent -- theatre memories is, having seen a very young Ian McKellen play Hamlet with the Prospect Theatre opposite Susan Fleetwood, I was privileged to be in the audience for his one man show in Bolton on his 80th birthday.
