Under the all-encompassing description "70 minutes, seven seasons, one Spike", the one-man show Buffy Revamped arrives at Newcastle's Tyne Theatre and Opera House (September 24) after a third Edinburgh season and a North American debut in Toronto.
Acclaimed comedy actor Brendan Murphy does as the tag-line suggests: as Spike, one of the biggest, baddest (but surprisingly good-hearted, deep down) villains in the middle series of Joss Whedon's funny, groundbreaking teens-v-vampires TV saga Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Brendan runs through the entire seven-season storyline, playing all the main characters as he goes.
The fast-paced production zips through the entire 144 episodes of the hit 90s TV show. Funny, satirical and bursting with 90s pop-culture references, it’s the perfect parody for Buffy fans.
Named best-reviewed show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 by the British Comedy Guide, the show was created by comedian Brendan Murphy, whose most recent show, FRIEND (The One with Gunther), won best play at the World Wide Comedy Awards.
Brendan Murphy is an actor, writer and voiceover artist who, as well as Buffy Revamped, has performed his Friends parody in North America and at the Adelaide Fringe, and toured the UK. Regularly performing in Potted Potter (the 70minutes parody run-through of the entire Harry Potter series), he has toured extensively across the US and Canada, including a residency at Bally’s in Las Vegas, which won best new show in the Best Of Las Vegas awards.
