The Leeds Playhouse Christmas production of classic Lionel Bart musical Oliver! will boast a cast of 38 youngsters, chosen from open auditions that attracted 1,500 hopefuls.

Six young northern actors have been chosen to play Oliver and The Artful Dodger during the run, (November 24-January 27).

The trio who will play orphan Oliver are Carter-J Murphy (aged nine) and Nicholas Teixeira (9) from Manchester and Theo Wake (10) from Edinburgh.

Carter-J said: "This is the best thing to ever happen to me. I've loved Oliver! since I as five; I'm so excited to be cast in such an amazing show."

The role of the Artful Dodger will be shared by Felix Holt (11), from Sheffield; Ram Narayanan Pisharody (12) from Hull, and Noah Walton (13) from Stockton on Tees.

Noah will be in Leeds for a second Christmas: "I’m thrilled to be returning to this amazing theatre with a brilliant team after playing Charlie Bucket last Christmas."

Director James Brining said: “We met hundreds of youngsters from across the north; the excitement and enthusiasm of our final six as we start working together is infectious. I know they’re going to do a brilliant job.

"When they’re joined by the 32 other children, the 20 adult actors and our wonderful band, we’re going to have an absolutely fantastic and talented company.”

Families visiting the Playhouse can make use of the theatre’s child-friendly facilities, including its free creative play area, baby changing facilities and family toilets, high-chairs and catering options.
