Casting announced for Ballad of Johnny and June

Producers have announced the cast for the UK tour of Johnny Cash musical The Ballad of Johnny and June, due from March.

Christopher Ryan Grant (The Iceman Cometh, Million Dollar Quartet) will bring his acclaimed performance as the great country singer to the UK from sold-out seasons in California and Canada, while two-time Drama Desk award nominee Christina Bianco (Forbidden Broadway, The Wizard of Oz in the West End) will star as his wife June Carter Cash.

The show opens in March and will visit northern venues Newcastle Theatre Royal (June 2-6); Salford's Lowry (June 9-13); Bradford Alhambra (June 30-July 4); Hull New Theatre (July 7-18); Blackpool Winter Gardens (July 21-25); York's Grand Opera House (July 28-September 21) and Leeds Grand (September 15-19).

Told through the eyes of their son, songwriter and musician John Carter Cash - who helped create this official production - the musical shows why Johnny Cash and his wife remain one of the most iconic couples in music history, with a soundtrack of hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, I’ve Been Everywhere, Wildwood Flower and many more.

The show will be directed by two-time Tony award winner Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, The Who’s Tommy, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical).

Johnny Cash sold more than 90 million records, won 13 Grammy awards and in 1999 a lifetime achievement award. June won five Grammies across an illustrious career. The pair married in 1968 and remained together until June’s death in 2003.
