Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats will tour next year in a production from London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Northern dates are Hull New Theatre (October 20-24, 2026); Manchester Palace (November 10-21) and Venue Cymru, Llandudno (December 1-5).
With music by Lloyd Webber and words by TS Eliot (from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats), the production - touring under a new venture formed by Lloyd Webber and top producer Michael Harrison -
will run at Regent’s Park from next July, directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie, the venue's artistic director and a former cast member of the show.
Cats is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, originally opening at the New London Theatre in 1981- where it played for 21 record-breaking years and almost 9,000 performances.
Drew McOnie said: “As for many dancers in the industry, Cats was a transformative experience for me and as a former cast member, it's thrilling to be directing and choreographing this new production. We are delighted it will reach audiences across the country after its London run."
Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “I'm very excited to see a totally new production of Cats back on stage, where it belongs. I can think of no-one better than Drew McOnie to bring a new vision.”
Since the world premiere, Cats has been seen in over 50 countries, has been translated into 23 languages and has been seen by more than 77 million people.
