Corrie's Katie McGlynn in stage debut

Former Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn will be joining the UK tour of Peter James’ Detective Superintendent Roy Grace thriller Wish You Were Dead this spring and summer

The show is at Leeds Grand (May 2-6), The Lowry in Salford (May 23-27) and Sheffield's Lyceum (June 27-July 1).

Best known for her seven-year starring role (until 2020) as Sinead Tinker in Coronation Street - for which she won a National Television Award - as well as Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks and the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing, Katie (right) will be making her professional stage play debut, playing pathology technician Cleo Morey.

In this premiere production, she and Grace (played by Casualty star George Rainsford) take a much-needed holiday together, but their dream escape turns out to be the holiday from hell as the past comes back to haunt them.

Katie said: “I can’t think of a better way to make my stage play debut than with this brilliant and thrilling Peter James masterpiece. I'm so excited to be performing alongside such an incredibly talented cast. I’m really looking forward to visiting theatres all over the country, witnessing the audience reaction to the many twists, turns and edge-of-your-seat moments in the show.”

Wish You Were Dead follows five successful stage plays and primetime ITV series Grace (set in Brighton and starring John Simm as Grace), all based on James's best-selling novels.

This sixth adaptation makes it the most successful crime thriller stage franchise since Agatha Christie and there is scope for plenty more - there are 20 stories so far, of which this is based on the most recent novella.
