Corrie's Sue Cleaver gets the habit

Sue Cleaver - Coronation Street star joins the cast of Sister Act - The Musical
Sue Cleaver - from cobbles to good habits

Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver will swap the cobbles for rosary beads as she becomes Mother Superior in the tour of Sister Act The Musical, heading to the Manchester Palace next year (March 18-30).

She's also in Brighton, Cork, Belfast and Birmingham, but her only other northern date in the show is at the Grand Opera House, York (May 6-11).

‘‘I’m thrilled to be stepping into the habit and joining the incredible company of Sister Act on tour," she said. "It’s been over 30-years since I’ve been on stage, but theatre has always been my first love. A chance to take on a role like this feels like heaven.”

Sue has played Eileen Grimshaw in the long-running soap for the last 23 years, winning Favourite Female Soap Star at the TV Now Awards and Best Soap Actress at the TV Quick and TV Choice Awards in the process – as well as being twice nominated for Most Popular Actress at the National Television Awards.

Her other TV credits include City Central, dinnerladies, This is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper, Peak Practice, Casualty, Band of Gold, A Touch of Frost and most recently I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Based on the iconic movie, Sister Act The Musical tells the story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder and hides out in a convent. Disguised as a nun she comes under the suspicious watch of the Mother Superior...

The show features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted).
