Cutting edge at Liverpool's Unity Theatre

Following the success of its Heritage Lottery Funded project marking 100 years of radical theatre in Liverpool this summer, the city's Unity Theatre has announced an autumn/winter season featuring a programme of innovative shows aimed at emphasising under-represented voices and stories.
Following the already-announced International Festival of Contemporary Physical Theatre (September 7-12, see here), the Liverpool Irish Festival follows in October, showing artists of Irish heritage and their stories -including The Life and Times of Paddy Armstrong (October 30-31), starring Irish favourite Don Wycherley.
The play relates the injustice suffered by Paddy Armstrong, who in 1975 was wrongly convicted of helping to carry out the Guildford and Woolwich bombings.
Continuing to champion local stories and creative artists, The Story of Edith Smith (September 16) is a new heritage theatre production as part of Her Stories of Wirral, a national project uncovering overlooked women’s histories from across the Wirral.
Autumn also sees Unity continue its partnership with Liverpool Doc Club, in a series of cutting-edge, cinematic non-fiction before Christmas productions begin to kick in, with RAWD’s Tinsel on the Tracks, oozing Christmas spirit (December 3-5); Arts Groupie's Ghost Stories for Christmas (December 11-12) and Unity's own in-house The Night the Toys Came to Life (December 11-23).
