Producers have broken out of the lockdown restrictions in a big way by announcing the first-ever UK tour of smash-hit musical School of Rock.
The announcement is clearly seen as good news for the theatre-going public, since the tour has been announced even before a cast has been found. See the full venue list here.
The run opens in Hull this September and arrives at the Liverpool Empire almost a year later, in July 2022.
In between, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning West End musical follows a huge schedule that takes in much of the UK and Ireland, including Bradford in October, Manchester next January and Leeds next April.
Based on the hit movie, the show follows Dewey Finn – a failed, wannabe rock star – who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to earn extra money. He turns a class of straight-A students into a rock and roll band, the show’s big attraction being that the young actors actually perform as the band and play their own instruments.
The show is written by Julian Fellowes, for years a top screen writer and creator of Downton Abbey.
