English Youth Ballet (EYB) is auditioning for young dancers in the Manchester area for a touring production of Cinderella in Hollywood.

Young dancers are invited to Sale Grammar School on January 9, when up to 100 boys and girls aged 8-18 from across the region will be offered the chance to rehearse and dance alongside international professional principals in three performances of the ballet at Manchesteer Opera House from March 8-9.

The award-winning EYB is now in its 26th year and one of the largest ballet companies in the UK, touring nationally under director Janet Lewis MBE, a former dancer with the Royal Ballet Company and London Festival Ballet. The company has a core team of eight principal dancers, two artistic ballet staff, two wardrobe mistresses and four technicians.

The principal dancers have danced in some of the world’s greatest companies, including English National Ballet and Vienna Festival Ballet.

Janet Lewis said: “The audition is an experience in itself; EYB is all about performance experience, and this starts at the audition as the dancers are given a regular ballet class with parents and family encouraged to watch. We are looking for young dancers of all abilities who can show the audience how much they enjoy their dancing."

Each audition will take the form of a regular ballet class, and dancers will find out on the day if they have been successful.

Register for the audition in advance if possible, though registration on the day will be available on the day. There is an audition fee £20, and all dancers participate in a full ballet class. Parents are invited to watch.

Dancers aged 8-11 dance from 5pm-6.45pm, and older dancers from 7.15pm– 9.00pm. If registering on the day, arrive 30 minutes in advance.
