Sheffield's Lyceum Theatre makes pantomime history this week when Damian Williams makes his 1000th appearance as Dame.

Since his first Sheffield Dame in 2008, Damian has been a regular in the seasonal show, this year starring as Dame Dolly in Aladdin (until January 4). Damian has already announced his return for next year's Cinderella and intends continuing to spend his Christmases at the Lyceum for many years to come.

He said: "I’m really pleased to have reached this milestone performance - I’ve loved doing every single one of them.

"I’ve said many times that I see Sheffield as my second home, and it’s always such a buzz at Christmas. So to step out on to the Lyceum stage for the 1000th time is really special. I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I will."

More widely, Damian is better known as a masterful impersonator of British comedy legend Tommy Cooper.

After a season at Edinburgh last year, his performance as Cooper in The Last Laugh was in the West End, off Broadway and on UK tour (see here).

The adopted Sheffielder was born in Essex and lives in Southend with his wife, Barbie, proud parents of twins Joshua and Esme.

Damian became well known to television audiences in the early 1990s for his appearances as Ginger Gahagan in the BBC series Billy Webb and the second series Alfonzo Bonzo. His other television appearances include Lumpy in Spatz; Gavin in Exam Conditions and Ian in The Bill.

Most recently, Damian could be seen as Whiff in the CBBC’s series Andy and the Band.
