Following summer at the London Palladium, The Wizard Of Oz musical opens its UK tour with a Christmas season at the Liverpool Empire (December 13-January 7).
Other northern dates so far announced are Sheffield Lyceum (January 30-February 3), Venue Cymru in Llandudno (March 5-10, 2024) and Bradford Alhambra (March 19-23, 2024).
Diane Belding, theatre director at the Liverpool Empire, said: “Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore, because she’s in Liverpool! We’re so excited to finally announce our Christmas show, which is always the biggest and best in the city. We can’t wait to bring the yellow brick road to Lime Street to kick off the UK tour of this epic production.”
Featuring the iconic original score from the Oscar-winning MGM film, including Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and We're Off to See the Wizard - with additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - Dorothy, Toto and friends once again set out on an adventure down the yellow brick road to Oz.
The production comes originally from Curve, Leicester, directed by Nikolai Foster (Billy Elliot The Musical, A Chorus Line). Producer Michael Harrison said: “There really will be no place like the Liverpool Empire this Christmas. Nikolai Foster and his team have created a new and magical production of this beloved musical."
Casting and further dates to be confirmed.
