Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne will play influential Britpop music executive Andy Ross in new musical The Battle, heading next year to Manchester Opera House (March 17-21); York's Grand Opera House (June 9-13) and Storyhouse, Chester (July 28-Aug 1).

It's London in 1995 and two of the country’s biggest bands release singles on the same day, commencing the battle of Britpop. On one side, clean-cut, art-school intellectuals from the South - Blur; on the other, raw and unapologetic lads from the North - who else but Oasis?
Rivalries flare, friendships fracture and at the centre of it all is a fan rivalry that would define an era – were you Blur or Oasis?
Mathew says: “This play is right in the sweet spot of my teenage experience. I’m thrilled to be exploring it on stage with such a talented creative team.”
The actor's other theatre credits credits Include: Endgame; The Lover / The Collection; Noises Off; Rain Man and Charley’s Aunt. TV includes Gavin and Stacey; Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes; Worried About The Boy; Catherine Tate’s Nan and Bad Education.
