From the enterprise that produced West End and Broadway hit musical Operation Mincemeat comes Half Man Half Bull, an Edinburgh Festival success that reimagines Greek myths.
The play will be presented. by Rewrites, a showcase for new musicals started by Salford's Lowry in 2017 to support new musicals.
Rewrites puts shows in front of an audience for the first time by way of "scratch nights", works-in-progress workshops and concerts. The showcase was expanded last year to include three new partner venues, Birmingham Hippodrome, Mayflower Studios in Southampton and Norwich Theatre, creating a touring platform for new musicals in development
Operation Mincemeat started out at a scratch event at the Lowry under the Rewrites banner, and now Half Man Half Bull finds composer and lyricist team Wright and Grainger, with Oliver Tilney, reimagine two myths - the adrenaline-fuelled Theseus and The Minotaur and Deadalus and Icarus - "A lad heads off to kill a monster. A boy falls out of the sky. Two inextricably linked stories of hope and loss."
Matt Eames, who is head of theatres (contemporary & commissioning) at the Salford venue, said: “We recognise it is an impossibly challenging period for companies making new work at the moment, and Rewrites continues to respond to what new musicals need to develop and thrive in this environment.
"We all loved Half Man Half Bulll in Edinburgh last year, and felt the show would really benefit from the support Rewrites offers.”
Half Man Half Bull's northern date is at the Lowry on November 7-8.
