Hull Truck Theatre is holding a series of interactive, theatre-based summer schools over the summer holidays for children of all ages
The workshops have been designed for specific age groups, based on Key Stage development, including ages 5-7 (KS1), 7-11 (KS2) and 11-18 (KS3-5). Each group will be designing a themed “play in a week”, which will be performed for family members and friends at the end of each week.
Tom Saunders, associate director at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “I don't think there is a better way to stay active, creative and have fun during the holidays. Participants always report having a great time, making friends and learning lots."
Play in a Week for five to seven-year-olds (August 11-15) is a week full of games, arts and crafts, and the opportunity to create a special piece of theatre.
For young people aged 7-11 (who will have just finished school years three to six, Play in a Week: Bump in the Night (July 28-August 1) offer the chance to experience making theatre, acting, writing and all things creative.
Teenagers aged 11-18 (just post school years 7-13), have Play in a Week: Stories Around the Campfire (August 4-8), which will offer skills for theatre-makers, create interesting characters and dialogue, learn key skills and perform for parents, families and friends.
There is also a theatre school week for those over 18: Play in a Week: Murder Mystery, which costs £75 and works towards creating a short murder mystery play.
Joe Beckett, a drama worker at Hull Truck, said: “Our summer schools are a good opportunity for young people to come together, make new friends and collaborate.”
Each of the under-18s summer schools costs £100 for the week, but Hull Truck will discuss reduced prices or bursary places for those keen to attend but unable to afford it. Email engagement@hulltruck.co.uk for information.
