Fundraising and social group Friends of The Grand - Blackpool Grand Theatre that is - will celebrate their 50th anniversary this year – and they're looking for new members.
The group was formed in 1973 to save the beautiful theatre from demolition, and early members included Violet Carson, Alistair Cooke, Leslie Crowther, Tim West and Prunella Scales, Billy Pearce, Johnnie Casson and founding member Sir Ken Dodd OBE.
The Friends have contributed in excess of £1m towards much-needed theatre projects, including the provision of new carpets, seating and technical equipment, and the Friends’ AGMs are a vital part of planning and discussing future projects to preserve and maintain the building – known as architect Frank Matcham’s masterpiece.
Friend's chairman, John Grady, said: “This year’s AGM will be held on April 26. All of our members are very welcome to attend and we are actively encouraging nominations to join our committee. We would also love to see new members to help us continue our vital work for this much-loved local community resource.”
The Friends’ AGM will be held in The Space at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, on April 26 at 11am. Anyone wishing to make a nomination to join the committee for 2023-24 must complete and return an application form no later than April 19.
An annual membership for Friends of The Grand is £20, with under-18s and over-65s paying £10.
