John Thomson to star as Scrooge in Salford
Top comedy actor John Thomson will play Ebenezer Scrooge in Salford's Lowry Christmas production of A Christmas Carol (December 11-January 10).
The award-winning actor, writer, comedian and presenter has been prominent in British television, film and theatre for over 30 years, in roles in everything from Cold Feet and The Fast Show to Coronation Street. His theatre work includes The Rivals and his Manchester Evening News Theatre Award-nominated role in Hobson’s Choice.
John said: "I’m looking forward to entertaining everyone at the Lowry this coming Christmas."
The production, which comes from London's Old Vic, has been adapted by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child), and will spend its 10th anniversary season in Salford - its first time outside London.
Director Matthew Warchus said: "As we celebrate 10 years of this production, it feels very special to bring it to another part of the UK and to share the warmth, humour and magic of the story with a whole new audience."
