Newly-launched Theatre Porto (formerly Action Transport Theatre) of Ellesmere Port in Cheshire has announced a first season in its new home, aimed at creating original, imaginative theatre for children and young people.

The launch show – at the company's new theatre space in the town's Whitby Park – is The Chronicles of Atom and Luna (October 19-23) by Murray Lachlan Young, a recent poet in residence for BBC Radio 6.

Atom and Luna are no ordinary twins but "only the birds and the moon know just how special they are..." With puppetry and music, this other-worldly adventure is recommended for audiences aged seven and above. The show can also be seen at Z-Arts in Manchester (October 22), Theatre By The Lake in Keswick (October 28-29) and Unity Theatre, Liverpool on November 5.

The company's home-base Christmas show (December 5-21) will be Star of Wonder, based on the ideas of children from local Ellesmere Port primary schools in collaboration with the team at Teatro Pomodoro. Relaxed by design, the show will be accessible and child-centred, with minimal text, performed by a diverse cast of international and learning-disabled performers.
