Sheffield Theatres is collaborating with four local theatre companies to support their development as part of new artistic director Elizabeth Newman's ambition to create work from within the city.
The Sheffield-based associate companies are: Forced Entertainment, an ensemble influencing the ecology and experience of theatre through collaboration with other artists; Roots Mbili Theatre, which explores cross-cultural and international collaborations; Stand & Be Counted Theatre, an arts charity and the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary, and The Bare Project, an artist-led collective creating artistic experiences with communities.
The four will each receive access to the theatre's resources across its four-venue complex, from rehearsal space, technical equipment and staff to creative input from the artistic and production team.
Elizabeth Newman said: “When I became artistic director last year, it was an exciting time to begin connecting with the many brilliant artists and companies rooted in Sheffield, to build more meaningful partnerships.
"Each brings a bold voice and a deep connection to our communities. This is a significant step to make Sheffield Theatres a true creative home that celebrates the extraordinary talent of the city.”
