The award-winning Old Vic production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will be the Christmas show for the Lowry arts centre in Salford this year (December 11-January 10).

Adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child) the international hit has been a huge success over the past 10 years, seen by a million people in London, America and Australia, but the Lowry season will be its first UK season outside the capital.

Artistic director Matthew Warchus, the show's director, said: "The show has delighted audiences from London and beyond and I am immensely proud of the impact it continues to have – whether it's their first time seeing it or one visit of many. To be able to share the joy of this production with Lowry audiences makes this year a special one."

Lowry chief executive Julia Fawcett said: "It's one of the most exciting, joyous and moving Christmas productions you’ll ever see. It’s the first time the show will have been presented in the UK outside London - a real landmark moment for theatre in the region. We know North West audiences are in for something very special." comes from London's Old Vic theatre, where it has been a huge hit for the past 10 years.
