Created by two women working in hospitality, The Pornstar Martini Effect: A Bartender’s Guide to Not Killing Yourself at Christmas premieres at fringe venue The Kings Arms in Salford (May 27-28).
On Christmas Eve, bartenders Kat and Tom endure a night of bad music, difficult guests and endless Pornstar Martinis. When a male guest harasses Kat tensions rise, forcing them to confront gender dynamics in hospitality and their impact on identity and relationships.
From newly-formed, Manchester-based 52 Theatre Company, artistic director and writer Ella Kendrick says: "With roots in the University of Manchester’s vibrant arts scene and a personal connection to the themes we explore, we aim to tell stories that reflect the city we live and work in.
"We'll be at the Edinburgh Fringe later this year, but we're also really keen to present this show in Manchester as there is such a vibrant community that works in hospitality, and we are hoping to raise awareness for those workers.
"This is a topic that hasn't been discussed nearly enough, so we've also partnered with wonderful hospitality charity, Kelly's Cause, to advise us and provide more awareness and coverage."
