They have already made audiences laugh with shows such as Gwyneth Goes Skiing and Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story, and now real-life couple Linus Karp and Joseph Martin get set to have fun with familiar fairy tales.
Their new Awkward Productions show The Fit Prince - full title The Fit Prince Who Gets Switched On The Square In The Frosty Castle The Night Before (Insert Public Holiday Here) is at Manchester's Hope Mill Theatre later this month (April 21-26). It's also at Hull Truck Theatre on June 11.
The show had a sold-out run last year at the Edinburgh Fringe (where Karp and Martin got married on stage after 11 years together); Vogue named Fit Prince as one of its "Top 10 Standout Acts" and it was named a "Critics’ Pick" by the New York Times. The show transferred to London’s King’s Head Theatre to a slew of five-star reviews.

Set in the mythical land of Swedonia, the king is dead, and the prince - next in line to the throne - is unmarried. If he doesn’t find someone soon, he must forfeit the crown! Meanwhile in New York, baker Aaron Butcher is butchering his career as a family baker. His puppet colleague secretly enters him for a mysterious royal commission in Swedonia, and he is chosen to bake the prince's wedding cake. Events, as they, say, then get out of hand...
The show is an affectionate send-up of a particular style of movie rom-com, flicking through the themes of traditional holiday movies. It has original music by Golden Globe–nominated songwriter Leland, as well as digital cameos from Grammy-nominated Tove Lo and stars of Heartstopper and
Young Royals.
Karp said, “Nowhere welcomes our shows like Manchester. There is a reason Manchester is the city we've toured the most to: by now it feels like a second home.”
