Manchester venue 53two and Take Back Theatre present the world premiere of a play by well-known writer Rebekah Harrison in June.
What Does It Take To Slay a Dragon (52two, June 11-20), is an unflinching play about nationalism and identity.
When delivery driver Billy is asked to remove an England flag from his van dashboard, what seems like a small request ignites a sequence of events that upend his life. The play isn’t just about one delivery driver: it’s about belonging, and the lines drawn between ourselves and others.
Rebekah said: "I've sat with this play for quite a while, seeing it become ever more relevant with current news cycles. I'm really excited to see it brought to life. My hope is that it will start conversations - both about the issues it covers and also about how theatre can be used to influence social and political change.Â
What Does It Take To Slay a Dragon explores the ripple effects of personal choices in an increasingly polarised world, delving into the messy, human stories behind the headlines.
Director Martha Simon added: "Rebekah's script is modern and razor-sharp, and expertly dissects the
polarised worlds we live in.
Take Back Theatre, co-founded by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh, is known for creating thought-provoking work that tackles social issues.
