The world premiere production of S J Watson’s international bestseller Before I Go to Sleep will tour to northern venues from the New Year as part of a major UK and Ireland tour.

Acclaimed actor, author and podcaster Giovanna Fletcher will star as Christine in the production, which will visit the Grand Opera House in York (March 2-6), Sheffield Lyceum (March 30-April 3), Storyhouse in Chester (April 20-24), Lowry, Salford (May 4-8), Theatre Royal, Newcastle (May 18-22), and Leeds Grand June 22-26).

The gripping new adaptation is written by Rachel Wagstaff and directed by Loveday Ingram – the celebrated creative team behind the successful 2025 adaptation of The Girl on the Train.

The tour coincides with the publication of Watson’s sequel, Before I Sleep Forever, due for release in May.

Giovanna Fletcher said today: “It’s a thrilling, chilling and captivating story that I know audiences will love.

“And I’m chuffed to be working with Rachel Wagstaff and Loveday Ingram again – the three of us loved working together on The Girl on the Train last year and are very happy to be reunited.”

S J Watson added: “Before I go to sleep has lived many lives I never expected – and this feels like one of the most exciting yet.”

The tense, fast-moving psychological thriller delves into the story of Christine, who appears to have an idyllic life – with one terrible exception. Every night as she sleeps, she loses her memory, waking next morning remembering nothing from the last 20 years - not even the loving husband lying next to her.

As she tries to piece her life back together, hidden and terrifying truths emerge, forcing her to question everything around her.

S J Watson’s debut novel became a phenomenal success, selling more than six million copies worldwide and winning several crime novel awards. A film adaptation starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong was released in 2014. Watson's is currently at work on a new novel, with two due to be published in 2027.

Giovanna Fletcher most recently led the UK tour of The Girl on the Train, as Rachel Watson, and was previously seen in the West End and on tour in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Giovanna is a hugely successful author, podcast host and winner of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2020. She published her first work of fiction, Billy and Me, in 2013 and wrote six more novels in as many years.

With her husband Tom she has written a trilogy of Sunday Times best-selling books, while her first non-fiction work, Happy Mum, Happy Baby, was a number one bestseller she later turned into an award-winning podcast with more than 30 million listeners. A second book, letters on Motherhood, also became a best-seller in 2020.
