The Loves of Others, the hatreds of some...

A dinner party from hell heads back to the stage this October as Manchester-based HER Productions revives Alex Keelan’s The Loves of Others, nearly 10 years after the play’s original Greater Manchester Fringe production.
The distinctive piece of Northern theatre offers a closely-observed take on relationships, social expectations and the secrets we keep from the people closest to us. Described as a modern Abigail’s Party, it brings together three mismatched couples. Their evening spirals out of control when a seemingly innocent game of Mr and Mrs begins to expose buried resentments, secrets and uncomfortable truths
The revival is directed by Hannah Ellis Ryan, HER's artistic director, who has been fascinated by the play since seeing the original.
"It would be no exaggeration to say that The Loves of Others has lived rent-free in my mind since watching its production at the GM Fringe all those years ago," she revealed. "I was completely blown away by Alex Keelan’s ability to make me burst out laughing one second and feel so deeply uncomfortable the next. It feels like a perfect way to end a big year for HER Productions.”
The revival features an ensemble cast including Alexandra Maxwell, Paula Lane (Coronation Street, Emmerdale), Rick S Carr, James Oates, Brianna Douglass and Aaron Mwale.
You can see it at The Edge Theatre in Chorlton, Manchester (October 22-24), or Liverpool's Hope Street Theatre on October 28-29.
