Blackpool Grand Theatre is relaunching its Grand Young Company to provide training and artistic development for young people interested in a future creative career in theatre.
The Young Company was first formed in 1996, later became part of the National Theatre Connections programme and now relaunching, will give 14 to 19-year-olds the chance to join creative and practical sessions delivered by leading artists and theatre companies from across the UK. The group will also perform a new play for the national National Theatre Connections Festival.
Grand chief executive Adam Knight said; “I’m thrilled we’re able to relaunch the Grand Young Company this Autumn.
"As a former member of the National Youth Theatre and National Youth Music Theatre myself, I know just how important it is for young people to be able to access high-quality opportunities to explore and develop their performance and theatre-making skills, also to be inspired by experienced professionals and see pathways to future career opportunities, all while having fun, making new friends and advancing their sense of belonging – as an important and integral part of their local professional theatre.”
The reborn Grand Young Company will be led by a former member, Mykey Young, the theatre’s recently-appointed creative programmes producer – but as a 10 year old, a junior member of the group he now runs.
Open audition workshops will take place in the Blackpool Grand's studio on September 28-29 (6pm-8.30pm), and on Saturday September 30 (10am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4.00pm).
