Tristan & Yseult return

Poster for the 2026 touring production of Emma Rice's Tristan & Yseult

Director Emma Rice is bringing back her adaptation of Tristan & Yseult, the hit drama originally presented by Kneehigh Theatre in 2003 and last seen on stage in 2017.

The Emma Rice Company will take the production to Theatr Clwyd, Mold from September 22-26 and York Theatre Royal from April 6-17, 2027 - on a tour taking in much of the UK and even New York, with more dates likely to be added.

Based on a medieval legend, the visceral, playful and beautiful production follows the forbidden love between Knight Tristan and Irish princess, Yseult.

John Leader and Nandi Bhebhe will lead the cast as Tristan and Yseultm joined by Matthew Churcher, Tom Fox, Jack Heydon, Stephanie Hockley, Edward Rowe and Nigel Sudarkasa. In the band will be Pat Moran, Stu Barker, Harry Miller, Philippa Hogg and, for the New York run, Mary Johnson.

Written by Anna Maria Murphy and Carl Grose, and adapted and directed by Rice, the creative team features Stu Barker (composer), Simon Baker (sound), Malcolm Rippeth (lighting), Etta Murfitt (choreographer), with the original set and costume design by Bill Mitchell, refreshed by Vicki Mortimer.
