Leeds-based theatre company Wrongsemble, which specialises in working with and creating work for young people, schools and families, is touring Rapunzel, an adaptation of Sheffield-based Bethan Woollvin's illustrated book.
Formed in 2015, the northern company won the Child Friendly Leeds award for "Inspiring creativity through arts and culture" in 2020, and "best theatre company" at the Yorkshire Prestige Awards in 2022.
This fresh retelling of the fairy tale follows Rapunzel as she starts to question the world she has been trapped in, and finds the courage to step beyond her tower-prison.
Director and writer Elvi Piper said: “We wanted to create a version of Rapunzel that feels exciting, contemporary and emotionally truthful. At its heart, this is a story about young people discovering who they are and learning the world is much bigger and more beautiful than they have been led to believe.”
Wrongsemble can be seen in various places across the summer, including Skipton town hall (June 13); Knutsford's Picnic in the Park; Kirkstall Valley Farm; Bramley Carnival; Meanwood Valley Urban Farm; Nostell Priory, Wakefield, and Leeds Industrial Museum.
