As You Like It, more or less, in Scarborough and Prescot
As You Like It (more or less) is a new co-production from Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre (March 19-April 3, 2027) and Prescot's Shakespeare North Playhouse (April 9-May 1).
This new adaptation of one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies sets the story in 1978, where the flares are wide, the collars are pointed, and the price of fish is astonishing.
It follows the success of the two theatres’ co-productions of The Comedy of Errors (more or less) (which was UK Theatre Awards-nominated) and Love’s Labour’s Lost (more or less).
Orlando DeBois and the headstrong Rosalind are both looking for something more in their lives, but don't know what... until they meet. Will true love find a way, or will fate ruin the party for everyone?
The Bard's pastoral Forest of Arden is transformed into the chaos of a 1970s music festival, where the classic exploration of love, identity and family loyalty gets a radical tune-up.
Co-writer Kat Rose-Martin said: "I love a bit of the Bard. I also love wrestling, loads of gags and banger tracks that make you want to get up and boogie. We’ve been packing all that together and giggling every step of the way."
