A company that prides itself on its no-nonsense “northern” approach is to present its first gender-fluid play - a production of Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It.
The show will mark Northern Broadsides’ 30th anniversary and will be its first full-scale show since the pandemic. It will also form part of the 60th anniversary season of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic theatre.
The co-production, directed by Northern Broadsides artistic director, Laurie Sansom, will open at the New Vic on February 4, 2022 until February 26, before a short tour including the Dukes Lancaster, Salford’s Lowry, Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre, York Theatre Royal and Theatr Clwyd.
The production will feature a cast of 12 northern actors.
