Fifteen years on from its last appearance, popular Merseyside comedy Night Collar is being revived by St Helens Theatre Royal (September 26-October 5), with Liverpool actor and comedian John May as a cabbie working the Christmas Eve 'night collar' shift and meeting a colourful series of fares.

John is well-known for his comedy character creations, including Turkey Teeth, Kenny and Karen Corona and Derek, all developed during the Covid lockdown and now something of an internet sensation.

His screen credits include Coronation Street, This City is Ours, Our Eddy, Moving On, Fresh Meat, Time, Tin Star, Little Boy Blue and Doctor Who.

As John's reliable cab driver goes about his festive shift, his fares include a naked member of a stag party left in a wheelie bin, an Elvis impersonator with domestic woes, a drunk couple in the middle of an argument and a Santa Claus with tummy troubles, all played by local favourites Emma Grace Arends, Jenna Sian O’Hara, John O’Gorman and Sam Jones-Arthur.

St Helens Theatre Royal manager and director Chantelle Joseph said, "Tony Furlong and Jimmy Power’s comedy is a real rollercoaster of a ride, with some brilliant, larger-than-life characters – and we have a fantastic cast of talented actors joining John."
