Christmas Carol solo

Colin Connor - tucking in for Christmas

Former Bolton Octagon artistic director David Thacker and long time acting collaborator Colin Connor - they've worked together on more than 20 productions - are together again for a new one-man interpretation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Dickens himself gave many public readings of extracts from his own work, including A Christmas Carol, in which he performed many of the characters. More recently several actors have performed different one-actor adaptations, including Patrick Stewart and Simon Callow.

David said: "I love Dickens and I love A Christmas Carol and I’m very happy there will be so many productions of different adaptations all over the UK this Christmas. But I hope this adaptation for one actor allows the audience to hear Dickens's voice more clearly. Colin will be playing 34 characters, and about two thirds of the text is Dickens’s narration.

"What makes a single-actor production so special is the combination of the versatility of the actor and the genius of Dickens’ storytelling. Colin is an incredibly versatile and powerful actor and I’m loving working with him to bring Dickens' wonderful story to life.

"I have edited the text carefully to create a 99-minute show, butw every word is written by Dickens; nothing has been added or rewritten."

This will be the fourth collaboration between locally-based Rising Moon Productions and Form and Pressure, following American Buffalo, Faith Healer and That Can’t Have Happened!

See it at the Kings Arms, Salford (December 9-21).
