Hope Mill Theatre’s acclaimed Black British retelling of The Wiz to be streamed online

The theatre had to cancel 15 sold-out performances over Christmas due to Covid restrictions, so the rights holders have agreed to the show being filmed and streamed for a strictly limited number of performances only to UK audiences – and only with ticket sales for each performance equivalent to the relatively small number of physical seats in the theatre itself. The streaming dates are: January 22-24, at 7.30pm (with a 2.30pm show on January 23), January 24 and 28 at 7.30pm, and 2.30pm and 7.30pm shows on both January 29 and 30.

The show, directed by Matthew Xia, is a retelling of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in a contemporary setting.
