Makebeth, a unique interactive craft-a-long retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth brought to life using recycled cardboard, is heading for Leeds Playhouse.
Writer and adaptor Hannah Khalil said “I absolutely love writing plays for young people, but this one is going to be very special because we can’t do Makebeth without an audience - they will be crafting props during the performance and absolutely central to it all, so people had better come along, we need you!"
The make-along production is aimed at families and young audiences aged seven and over and comes from by Cardboard Adventures and Shakespeare’s Globe, in partnership with Chichester Festival Theatre and Leeds Playhouse.
Sam Wilde, the show's designer and founder of Cardboard Adventures, said: "It's refreshing to have a chance to be back in a room with world-class creative people, to play with one of the greatest plays the English language has to offer, and prove what artists can do with a great story, a bit of imagination... and a cardboard box!”
Leeds Playhouse chief executive Shawab Iqbal said, “We’re delighted MakeBeth will be our 2026 community tour show, taking live theatre to a range of community settings across Leeds.
"This inventive retelling of a Shakespeare classic offers families an exciting way to engage with one of theatre’s greatest stories.”
Tickets for the show at Leeds Playhouse and on tour will be on sale soon.
