A new thriller by author and playwright Torben Betts, Murder in the Dark, starring familar TV faces Tom Chambers and Susie Blake, comes to Salford's Lowry from January 23-27.

Directed by actor and director Philip Franks, the story is set on New Year's Eve when a car crash on a lonely road drops famous but troubled singer Danny Sierra and his extended family to an isolated holiday cottage in rural England.

From the moment they arrive, a sequence of inexplicable, ghostly events begins to occur… and then the lights go out.

Director Philip Franks said, “Horror films have been my guilty pleasure since I was a morbid child. Now is the time to find out whether many years’ worth of jump scares and terrible nightmares can be put to good use.”

Torben Betts’s previous work with the Original Theatre Company includes Invincible, Caroline's Kitchen and the online play Apollo 13: The Dark Side of the Moon.

Other work includes Get Carter, an adaptation of The Seagull for Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and The Unconquered (named Best New Play 2007 in Scotland),.

Tom Chambers is known for his roles as Sam Strachan in Holby City and Casualty. He also won the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing with his partner Camilla Dallerup.

Susie Blake has recently delighted audiences across the country with her acclaimed portrayal of Miss Marple in The Mirror Crack’d, but she is best known for playing a not-so-humble continuity announcer in Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, as well as regular roles in Coronation Street and Mrs Brown’s Boys.
