Oldham Coliseum has launched Micro Commissions 2021, offering investment, support and a virtual platform for three artists or companies from the region to create work about the world of today.
Exploring themes of health and wellbeing, local stories or work with young Oldhamers, the commissions will be produced for home viewing.
Theatre artistic director Chris Lawson explained: “Though the Coliseum’s doors remain closed to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, our commitment to local artists, audiences and communities is unwavering.
"Last year we worked with HOME in Manchester to commission the Poetry Health Service, a free website embodying the importance of art in supporting mental and emotional wellbeing."
Micro Commissions 2021 is an extension and continuation of this, offering opportunities for Greater Manchester creatives to explore interesting ideas with the theatre's help.
Micro Commissions can be video, audio, visual, text, live performance or any other form, and will be shared between March and May.
Successful applicants will receive £1,000, support in kind from the Coliseum’s production and marketing people, space to film or record and an online platform.
Two further Micro Commissions will be awarded among the Coliseum’s associate artists, who have been working with the theatre since September 2019.
The submissions deadline is January 31. Full details here.
