Manchester-based Red Brick Theatre's latest is Bad Moult, by award-winning playwright Robin Cantwell. Described as "a cautionary tale exploring toxic masculinity, the destructive influence of social media and western consumerism", it's at Salford’s King’s Arms (July 26-30), as part of the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival.
The show stars Colin Connor (American Buffalo; Warhorse's international tour; Girl from the North Country's UK Tour and A View from the Bridge at Bolton Octagon.
The darkly-comic monologue takes audiences into the troubled mind of Roach, a man in crisis who has resorted to living in a commercial waste bin.
Winner of the Cambridge Playwright Creatives Playwriting Award 2023, Bad Moult was long-listed for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 37 Plays event, which had more than 2,000 entries, and was in the top 35 in the 2023 Papatango Prize.
Red Brick Theatre artistic director Oliver Hurst is at the helm. Winner of the Royal Exchange’s Hodgkiss Award 2024, other recent work includes Simon Stephens’ Pornography, at 53two; assisting Josh Roche on the Royal Exchange's current hit update of The Importance of Being Earnest and assisting David Thacker on American Buffalo at the King’s Arms.
