The stage version of cult dark comedy Rita, Sue & Bob Too! will embark on a new April-to-July tour of 11 venues next year.
The Regal Entertainments production will open at the St Helens Theatre Royal on April 16, before travelling to Harrogate, Billingham, Bradford, Southport, Stockport and other venues before a one-week run at the Liverpool Olympia from June 30. As yet there is no cast, but are on sale.
Andrea Dunbar’s grittily funny story about love, lust and friendships is based on the 1987 British film and features some great 1980s music as it takes audiences down memory lane.Â
Rita and Sue are two working class girls from a run-down council estate who are about to finish their final year at school. In their spare time, they earn money babysitting for married couple Bob and Michelle. Bob starts an affair with both girls. Michelle eventually finds out and leaves her husband, whereupon he falls for Rita and the two girls fall out.
Director Chantelle Joseph said: “We had an amazing response from audiences when we toured the play last year, so I’m delighted we will be back on the road next spring and summer.
