The Karate Kid Musical on UK tour

Poster for Karate Kid The Musical, touring the UK in 2026

The Karate Kid - The Musical - based on the original 1984 film - goes on a UK tour next year, with northern dates at the Palace Theatre in Manchester (May 12-23); Leeds Grand (May 26-30); Liverpool Empire (June 2-6), Sheffield Lyceum (July 7-11) and Sunderland Empire (July 14-18). The producers are also hoping for transfers to the West End and Broadway.

The show has been written by Robert Mark Kamen, screenwriter of the original blockbuster movie starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita, which enjoyed spectacular box office success: Morita won an Oscar for best supporting actor. The movie became a cultural phenomenon, launching a major global franchise that has included three sequels, a 2010 remake and the Netflix series Cobra Kai.

This musical version was first seen in St Louis three years ago, played to full houses and won rave reviews.

At its heart is the original story of the powerful bond between young pupil Daniel and Mr Miyagi, who teaches karate isn’t about fighting but concerns balance, dignity, and respect.

Robert Kamen said: “Who knew that 43 years after I wrote the original script we would see these same characters acting and singing in a story that is as fresh and relevant as it was four decades ago.”

Casting is still to be announced
