The Other Neville shoots again

Step aside, legendary Manchester footballing brothers, the Nevilles: sister Tracey Neville takes centre stage omce again in The Other Neville at Manchester city centre's 53two venue (June 18-20).

The show is inspired by the England netball legend, using facts about Tracey's remarkable career and fictionalised conversations and events for dramatic purposes. Written by Rochdale writer and performer Imogen Greenwood, it was seen as a one-woman show at some venues last year.

The Other Neville shoots an entertaining light on one of netball’s most influential modern figures as it explores universal themes of ambition, sacrifice, identity and resilience.

Imogen - herself a netball player - portrays Tracey in March 2019, months after she had led England’s Roses to historic commonwealth gold and faced the toughest decision of her life.

Blending physical theatre, storytelling and the energy of netball itself, the show looks at the pressure, the power and the personal price of elite performance, brought to life on stage by an ensemble of six female actors.

Imogen said: “Growing up in the North West, I felt there were limited sport opportunities for girls, but netball was one of the few spaces available to me. I played for Rochdale and Bury netball clubs, where I learned about friendship, teamwork and what it means to fight for something you care about.

"Tracey Neville’s story is not only inspiring, but also speaks to the wider challenges faced by women pursuing professional athletic careers in a male-dominated sporting world. It also resonates with me as an artist, in the way it reflects the relationship between discipline, the body, and identity; how what happens on the court can mirror what unfolds in life beyond it.

"I hope this play can highlight the powerful impact netball can have, not only as a sport, but as a space that shapes who we become.”
