Tiny Tims are being hunted for the Christmas production of A Christmas Carol at Salford's Lowry from December 11 to January 10.

The show's creative and casting teams are looking for four young performers from the Greater Manchester area - especially Salford itself - to share this central role. But note that Tiny Tim is a disabled child, so unusually, only disabled children will be considered for the role.

Tim Cratchit is nine in Dickens' story, and the search is for children - girls or boys, in this case - nine years or above (if they look around nine). Ideally the children should live within an hour of the Lowry. Previous acting experience is welcomed but not necessary. Access requirements will be discussed at the point of submission.

This London Old Vic production was first seen 10 years ago and has been performed there every year since. Directed by Matthew Warchus and adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child), it has been seen by almost a million people in London, America and Australia, but Salford will be its UK provincial premiere,

Matthew Warchus, said: "When Jack Thorne handed me the script for A Christmas Carol, he made just one stipulation; that the role of Tiny Tim should always be given to a child with a disability.

"This aspect, of inclusion, is one very close to Jack's heart and he has become one of the UK's most respected voices on the subject of disability in drama.

"Needless to say I was more than happy to agree, and over the last 10 years, across the globe, the role has provided a wonderful opportunity for young people with a range of disabilities."

Parents of would-be Tims should apply quickly, for the deadline is noon this Friday, September 18 - by emailing tinytimssubmissions@oldvictheatre.com with TINY TIM — SALFORD as the subject. Give your child’s name, age, height, the name and contact details of a parent or guardian, a recent photograph or headshot of the child, and a little bit about the child and his or her interests -and note that rehearsals will begin on November 2 in LONDON, and will continue in Salford in early December.
