The orchestra is ready. The audience is waiting. There’s just one problem… two conductors arrive to conduct the same concert. As nerves unravel, what began as a simple mistake quickly crescendos into a fierce and funny battle for control of the spotlight.

Premiering at Salford's Lowry on November 12-13), Double Booking is a new dance theatre work by Leeds-based artist Lewys Holt and collaborator Eleanor Sikorski, the latest production to emerge from Developed With, the theatre's flagship artist development programme.

Developed With supports independent artists and companies across the north to create ambitious new work and build sustainable careers. As one of the programme's artists from 2024–26, Lewys received a commission, creative development time, rehearsal space and producing support from the theatre, as well as support from Yorkshire Dance.

Lewys said: “Double Booking grew out of our shared love of dance, comedy and improvisation, and a fascination in what happens when two people have to share the same stage, and the increasingly absurd lengths they might go to prove each is the one who belongs there.

Eleanor added: “Working together towards this performance has been a genuinely exciting process. The support we've received from the Lowry has been invaluable in giving us the time, space and trust to experiment. We're thrilled to be premiering Double Booking at Lowry this November.”

Antonia Beck, who is the theatre's senior producer for artist development, said: “We’re committed to supporting the breadth of talent creating new work across the north of England.

“We’ve been able to offer Lewys and Ellie the crucial time, space, investment and bespoke support needed to test ideas, take creative risks and shape this exciting work.”
