Shakespeare North Playhouse becomes a member of the RSC schools network

Shakespeare North Playhouse has announced a partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as part of the latter's acclaimed Associate Schools Programme, to offer opportunities for children, teachers and schools across Knowsley and the wider Liverpool area.

The programme, developed by the RSC over the past two decades, brings together Shakespeare's plays, rehearsal room techniques and long-term collaborations between schools and regional theatres, in total connecting 280 schools and 17 regional theatres across England.

The programme is built on the principle that local leadership is key, enabling theatres and schools to respond directly to their communities while benefiting from a national network of expertise and support.

Lisa Allen, who is CEO and creative director of Shakespeare North Playhouse, said: "We are delighted to bring this nationally-recognised model of creative learning to Knowsley.

"Every child deserves access to high-quality arts and cultural experiences. This partnership allows us to work closely with schools, teachers and young people to create opportunities that will have a lasting impact on their lives.

Steph Green, head of learning and engagement at the playhouse, added: "What excites us most about this is the emphasis on local leadership and long-term relationships. We know our schools, teachers and young people, and this programme lets us build on that knowledge while drawing on the expertise of the RSC's network. It's a hugely positive step towards ensuring that all children in Knowsley can experience the benefits of creativity and cultural participation."
