Stephanie Hutchinson will perform A Play for The Living in a Time of Extinction in York

Leeds actress Stephanie Hutchinson takes the role of Naomi in A Play for The Living in a Time of Extinction for its run at York Theatre Royal (September 27-30) – the final date of a production that tours the play, but not the cast and creatives.

The show takes audiences on a life-changing journey to confront the urgent ecological disaster unfolding around us. A joint production by London-based Headlong and The Barbican, written by American playwright Miranda Rose Hall, it pioneers an innovative touring model – the first of its kind in the UK – which sees a play tour while the people involved do not. The Barbican hosted the start of the play's journey and at each date since then, the show has been presented by a different team of theatre makers .

Mingyu Lin, director of the York leg of the play and resident artist at York Theatre Royal, said: "York is the final stop for this concept of sustainable touring and I’m excited to be directing our own version of this ambitiously eco-conscious, witty show made – and powered (referring to the electricity generated during the action by generator-connected cyclists) – by locally-based talent. I’m especially delighted to be working with Stephanie." Stephanie is based in and was born in Leeds, and studied performing arts at Salford University. Her theatre credits include Shake The City (Jermyn Street Theatre), Elephant Rock (Badapple Theatre Company), The Wind in the Willows (Library Theatre) and The Haunted Man (Kindred Theatre), and she has also appeared in Emmerdale, Without Sin and Coronation Street on TV.
