Hadestown on first UK tour

Multi 'best musical" award-winner Hadestown will embark on its first UK tour in February.

The Hadestown tour will start in Leicester, followed by northern dates (all in 2027) at Salford's Lowry (March 9-20, 2027); Leeds Grand (March 23-27); Newcastle Theatre Royal (June 1-5); Liverpool Empire (July 6-10); Sheffield Lyceum (September 9-18); Hull New Theatre (September 21-25); Storyhouse, Chester (November 2-6) and Sunderland Empire (November 9-13).

Blending American songwriting traditions from indie folk to pop, blues, and New Orleans-inspired jazz, Hadestown has music, lyrics and book by acclaimed Tony and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and BBC Radio 2 folk award-winner Anais Mitchell. He originated the show as an indie theatre project and acclaimed album before transforming it into a musical, alongside artistic collaborator and Tony-winning director Rachel Chavkin.

Hadestown takes audiences on a journey to the underworld and back, intertwining two mythic love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone.

Anais Mitchell said: “I’m thrilled Hadestown will be touring across the UK and Ireland. Our West End casts have taught us these songs sound right at home in every lilt and brogue. We are thrilled to bring this story and music to folks all over and see what new resonances will be found.”

Hadestown won eight Tony awards on Broadway including "best musical" and a Grammy award for "best musical theatre album". The original Broadway cast recording has become one of the most streamed cast albums ever, with almost a billion streams.

The critically-acclaimed West End run continues at London’s Lyric Theatre, more than eight years after its sold-out run at the National Theatre in 2018.
