Immerse yourself in Darkfield's Arcade

In a collaboration between three leading Greater Manchester venues, Darkfield - the pioneering producers of immersive experiences - will present three critically-acclaimed productions at the Lowry, at Aviva Studios and at HOME, Manchester (September 10-21).

Renowned for the trademark shipping-container events, which pop up across the UK and internationally, audiences will be immersed in the supernatural, board a new airline or navigate a war-torn world.

Fresh from sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in London, Darkfield present its latest experience, Arcade, at the Lowry.

Using the nostalgic aesthetic of 1980’s video games, Arcade's interactive narrative explores the evolving relationship between players and avatars. Over 30 minutes, shipping-container audiences will choose their own path through the story while experiencing the company's binaural sound and sensory effects. No two journeys through the experience will be the same.

The Lowry's co-head of theatres, Matthew Eames, said: “Darkfield creates such exciting, unique and special immersive experiences. It's brilliant to be working with our friends at HOME and Factory International.”

Aviva Studios will host Flight, one of Darkfield’s most popular experiences. Over 30 minutes in total darkness, Flight explores the "many-worlds" Interpretation of quantum mechanics, taking audience members through two worlds, two realities and two possible outcomes to their journey.

Flight premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018 and has since received rave reviews from immersive and traditional theatre critics alike.

At HOME Manchester, Darkfield will present its first shipping container experience, Seance. The interior of a 24ft container is transformed into a Victorian seance room and audiences are asked to believe not only what is happening inside the container but also in what might be conjured up into the room with them.

Seance premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017 and has since been experienced by over 250,000 people across the world.

The three experiences will be available at multiple times each day.
