Joseph Marcell - best-known for his role as Geoffrey the Butler in the six seasons of Will Smith's NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air - will head the cast of The School For Scandal, which opens a UK tour at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick (March 7-16).
The tour also plays at York Theatre Royal (April 23-27) and Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot (April 30-May 4).
Marcell plays suspicious husband Sir Peter Teazle in this fresh take on Sheridan’s now rarely-performed classic comedy of British manners. Sir Peter believes his young wife is sleeping with someone else. She isn’t - but she’s starting to think if her husband believes it, she may as well give it a go...
The 75-year-old veteran actor was most recently seen in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s film The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, and he is soon be seen in Candice Carty-William’s Queenie on Channel 4. His stage credits include Hamlet at the Young Vic with Cush Jumbo, Kathy Burke’s Lady Windermere's Fan and extensive work with Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as seasons at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The School For Scandal is produced by Tilted Wig Productions and Malvern Theatres, in zssociation with Theatre by the Lake.
